Mood Mug

DIRECTOR | ANIMATOR

Mood Mug is a water bottle for kids to express their emotions in a way that is unique and fun. So when the creators were ready to launch their Kickstarter, they wanted a video that was equally unique and fun. I proposed using stop motion animation to give the product a sense of personality, as well as a technique called pixilation animation to give dancers a quirky visual style to match.

The shoot itself was a dance between freeform expression and precision: allowing the dancers to find their rhythm within each song, then recreating their moves one pose at a time as a looping sequence of still photos. We shot against a green screen, then composited the multiple elements into a computer generated environment. Along with the music, visual effects, and motion graphics, this was truly a multimedia production.
